China-Korea Commercial Mediation Practice Salon Successfully Held in Shanghai
On the afternoon of April 21, 2025, the China-Korea Commercial Mediation Practice Salon, co-hosted by the Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center (SCMC) and the Korea International Mediation Center (KIMC), was successfully held at SCMC’s Pudong Binjiang office.
The event attracted representatives from the business, academic, and legal communities of both China and South Korea, and received strong support from institutions including the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and the East Asian Legal Studies Center of the School of Law at East China University of Science and Technology.

The event was moderated by Ms. ZHANG Wei, Director of SCMC.In their opening remarks, Ms. TANG Liming, Executive Director of SCMC, and Mr. CHO Jung-han, President of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, both emphasized the importance of choosing efficient dispute resolution methods in the context of increasingly close China-Korea economic and trade relations. They expressed their hope that commercial mediation would play a greater role in supporting and safeguarding friendly business cooperation between Chinese and Korean enterprises.

Professor PARK Nohyoung, Director of KIMC, delivered the keynote speech. He shared recent innovations and representative cases within Korea’s commercial mediation system, and highlighted the unique advantages of mediation-based Negotiation Dispute Resolution (NDR). According to him, NDR offers flexible integration with arbitration and litigation, creating win-win solutions for commercial parties. This approach aligns with the principles advocated by the Singapore Convention on Mediation and represents a core trend in the future of resolving international commercial disputes. Mr. GUAN Jianjun, Deputy Director of the SCMC Committee on International Trade and Investment, focused his remarks on the global tariff conflict. He offered practical insights and strategies for enterprises on how to “identify crises and navigate forward” under the new dynamics of international trade.
