“Bridging Closer to the World”

——Successful Commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center

On January 16, 2026, the commemorative event for the 15th anniversary of Shanghai Commercial Center (SCMC) was successfully held at Jinjiang Hotel. The event theme is “Bridging Closer to the World”. As a professional institution established early in China with pragmatic efforts and a broad vision, SCMC has always adhered to being based on national conditions, aligned with international practices, and strived to build a bridge of communication for the resolution of Sino-foreign commercial disputes. The event gathered guests from political, enterprise, academic, and business circles to jointly review the 15-year development history of China’s commercial mediation and explore new paths for the industry’s future.

The event kicked off with the recognition of outstanding mediators for 2025, paying tribute to the professionals who have long been engaged in frontline mediation work.

In the speech session, Lu Aiguo, Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, introduced the relevant practices since the introduction of Shanghai's 9.0 version of the business environment optimization measures, emphasizing the important supporting role of commercial mediation in the legalization and internationalization of the business environment; Jiang Huiling, Dean of the Law School of Tongji University and Chairman of the China Commercial Mediation Development and Cooperation Mechanism, shared professional insights on commercial mediation entering a new stage of healthy development, pointing out that as the industry steps into a new phase, it is necessary to further improve systems, cultivate talents, and integrate into the multi-dispute resolution system; Professor Zheng Chengliang, Former Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Vice President of the Jurisprudence Research Association of the China Law Society, conducted an in-depth analysis of the development of commercial mediation from the perspective of the integration of administration and law; Zhou Hanmin, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, emphasized from a global perspective in his speech that all parties should recognize the strategic significance of commercial mediation in promoting the connection of international rules and maintaining the global commercial order with a more forward-looking and systematic perspective.

In his concluding speech, Sun Jianping, Chairman of the Shanghai Services Federation and Chairman of SCMC, reviewed the development path of specialization, standardization, and internationalization of SCMC over the past 15 years. He stated that in the future, SCMC will continue to promote the concept of commercial mediation, improve the local dispute resolution mechanism, deepen international cooperation, and strive to build a solid“bridge of trust”for the resolution of cross-border disputes.

As an important part of the 15th anniversary commemorative event, SCMC also compiled and released an illustrated album titled “Bridging Closer to the World - 15 Years of Commercial Mediation”. With “Time Imprints” and “Brand Empowerment” as the main lines, the album combed through the important journey of SCMC over the past 15 years, recorded key moments in its development, and systematically answered the questions of “what has been done and what has been achieved” through rich images and documentary texts for all sectors concerned about commercial mediation. It is a precious visual yearbook witnessing the development of SCMC.

This commemorative event is a phased summary of SCMC's work over the past 15 years and also marks that SCMC has entered a new stage of more mature development. In the future, SCMC will continue to uphold a pragmatic style, deepen the dissemination of concepts, root itself in practice, expand international cooperation, deeply integrate commercial mediation into the market ecosystem, contribute legal forces to the high-quality development of the economy and society, and make the vision of “Bridging Closer to the World”take root and illuminate the future.
