SCMC Munich Service Station Assists CATL in Successful Resolution of European Patent Case
Recently, the European patent opposition case of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), represented by Attorney Gong Jinping, head of the SCMC Munich Service Station, achieved a significant victory. The European Patent Office issued a final ruling to maintain the patent in its original form without any modifications, affirming the full validity of the patent. This outcome not only demonstrates the global competitiveness of China’s core new energy technologies but also highlights SCMC’s professional expertise in overseas intellectual property rights protection.
The patent in question involves core secondary battery technology and is a key intellectual property asset for CATL’s strategic layout in the European market. Within just nine months of its grant, the patent faced a systematic challenge from a third party. Under Attorney Gong’s leadership, the case underwent approximately two and a half years of legal procedures, including multiple rounds of written responses and hearings, ultimately safeguarding the overseas intellectual property rights of the Chinese enterprise.
This case is of immense substantive value. As the first opposition case involving a leading enterprise in China’s new energy industry at the European Patent Office, it bears milestone significance. Going forward, SCMC’s Munich Service Station, a pivotal service bridge for Chinese enterprises in Europe, will continue to provide professional support for more enterprises to break through overseas barriers and consolidate their global competitiveness.
