On the morning of 22 May 2024, Mr Chuan Wee Meng, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore International Mediation Centre ("SIMC"), and Ms Fern Cheng, Director of Marketing of SIMC, visited Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center ("SCMC"). Ms Wei Zhang, Director of SCMC, and Dr. David Chen, Vice Chairman of SCMC warmly received them.

The leaders of SCMC welcomed the visit from the leaders of SIMC. In recent years, SCMC has been expanding its co-operation with renowned ADR organizations worldwide, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, where it actively engages with mediation organizations in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, etc., and gradually forming a synergistic development mechanism. Both SCMC and SIMC have been established for ten years and are well-known international commercial mediation organizations in their respective countries. The official signing of the cooperation agreement between SIMC and SCMC last year marked a new chapter in China-Singaporean cooperation in mediation.

       Mr Chuan introduced recent developments of SIMC and considered it a wise choice to establish a cooperation mechanism with SCMC as both organizations share the same development concepts and paths. During this visit, Mr Chuan expressed his hope to further promote the implementation of cooperation, assist in the diversified settlement of commercial disputes involving the "Belt and Road", especially between Chinese and Singaporean enterprises, and work together to strengthen the publicity and promotion of the concept of "Mediation First", contributing to the cultivation of the mediation market.

       The two sides reached a consensus on establishing a regular cooperation programme.
