The Korean International Mediation Centre (KIMC), established in 2020, is a NGO and the only international mediation center in the Republic of Korea, committed to providing professional commercial mediation services for Korean commercial entities. Affirming Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center (SCMC) as a leading professional commercial mediation organization in China, KIMC actively pursues collaboration with SCMC. Based on continuous communication and mutual understanding, SCMC and KIMC are dedicated to promoting Sino-Korean trade intercourse and offering new paths for commercial dispute resolutions between the two countries. On March 15, 2022, SCMC and KIMC officially signed the Agreement of Collaboration.

Director Wei ZHANG of SCMC, Professor REN Hu of East China University of Science and Technology, President Nohyoung PARK of KIMC and other relevant personnel from both sides attended the signing ceremony of the Collaboration Agreement. According to Director Wei ZHANG, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, China has become the Korea’s largest trade partner, export market, and source of imports, and frequent trade exchanges have thus fueled a high demand for commercial dispute resolution. Recognizing the development purpose and principles of KIMC, SCMC expressed that collaboration from the two sides will act as an escort and facilitate cross-border trade activities between China and Korea. Through joint mediation and cooperative promotion, SCMC expects an increased credibility and wide application of commercial mediation in the field of Sino-Korean legal services, and hopes to add vitality to Sino-Korean trade exchanges.

President Nohyoung PARK expressed his sincere admiration for SCMC’s ten years of unremitting endeavor in the field of commercial mediation in China. As the first international commercial mediation center in Korea, KIMC was established to better serve the Korean companies and set up a position for commercial mediation service in the Korean legal service industry. Under the background of the Singapore Convention on Mediation, KIMC hopes to work with SCMC in joint hands, promoting a rapid development of international commercial mediation while demonstrating the charms and merits of commercial mediation to Chinese and Korean commercial entities.

The two parties had an in-depth discussion on cooperative plans for the year of 2022, and will continue to build trust and provide better mediation services through seminars and joint mediation.
