In reviewing and summarizing the accomplishments in 2021 and 2022, while pursuing the better development in the future, a working conference was held by the Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center (hereinafter referred to as "SCMC") on June 9, 2023. The conference was attended by Sun Jianping (Chairman of SCMC) , Zhang Wei (Director of SCMC), Chen Naiwei (Vice Chairman of SCMC), Li Haige (Deputy Director of SCMC), Zhu Hongchao (Deputy Director of SCMC), and some mediators. The conference was presided over by Ms. Li Haige.

During the conference, Ms. Zhang Wei gave a report on the SCMC's work in 2021 and 2022. She introduced the acceptance and handling of cases, as well as efforts that SCMC had made to promote the effective operation of diversified dispute resolution mechanism. Ms. Zhang also emphasized that SCMC had continuously optimized its talent pool to achieve growth in commercial mediation expertise. She underlined that SCMC had constantly accelerated the improvement of its institutional and industry structure and consolidated the work foundation, with a view to enhancing the development of the diversified dispute resolution mechanism. In addition, Ms. Zhang highlighted that SCMC had actively engaged in both domestic and international exchanges and cooperation in an effort to build an international first-class commercial mediation institution. Looking forward to 2023, she presented a new outlook for the work and expressed her dedication to building a commercial mediation brand with Chinese characteristics.

Mr. Yuan Jiyu, Mr. Song Xuedong, Mr. Zhang Yi and Ms. Cui Mixue, the mediators of  SCMC, were awarded "2021-2022 Mediation Star" and "2021-2022 Outstanding Contribution Award". The participating leaders commended them for their work in mediation in 2021 and 2022 and their contribution to the development of SCMC.

Mr. Zhu Hongchao, on behalf of SCMC, read out the Decision on the Addition of Mediators, and the participating leaders presented the appointment letters to the new-appointed mediators.

The newly-appointed mediators thanked SCMC for its trust and recognition, and expressed that they would make good use of their professional knowledge and expertise to improve their professional skills and capabilities, so that they could properly resolve commercial disputes and help companies overcome difficulties. With the contribution of them, SCMC can speed up the establishment of the diversified dispute resolution mechanism, and popularize the concept of "Mediation First" in commercial disputes. They believed that they would write a new chapter together with SCMC.

Some of the mediators focused on typical and complex cases, and shared their experiences in commercial mediation. They explained in depth how to determine the disputed issue during the mediation and how to make use of the mediation techniques to help the parties move towards each other, which fully reflects the professionalism and comprehensive ability of the mediators, provides a professional "business in business, and win together" environment for the parties, and substantially help the parties resolve the commercial disputes.

In the concluding remarks, Mr. Sun Jianping stressed that SCMC had established a professional image for commercial mediation, serving as a name card of Shanghai brand and China's services. Mr. Sun expected that SCMC could continue to strengthen its institutional development with high standards and requirements, follow the trend of commercial mediation development, actively participate in theoretical research on commercial mediation, strive to spread Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions on commercial mediation, and foster a law-based world-class business environment with the features of internationalization and facilitation in Shanghai.
